5.2 Design Professional Responsibilities
a) Shall review The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring & Reconstructing Historic Buildings, revised by Anne E. Grimmer (2017) as published by U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service Technical Preservation Services and determine which parts are appropriate for the project.
b) Examine product technical data sheets to determine if material performance (e.g. scratch and wear resistance) is appropriate for the project.
a) The historical period or periods to be restored.
b) Species, grain, and overall appearance of the specified historical period or periods.
c) Grain direction, if other than vertical.
d) Environmental conditions.
e) Stripping method.
f) Glass type, thickness, and edge treatment
g) Interior clearance.
h) Seismic fabrication and/or installation.
i) Flame spread rating.
j) Moisture resistance.
k) Insulation from adjacent heating and cooling sources.
l) Hardware.
5.3 Surface Categories
a) Surfaces normally visible after installation.
a) Defined as all interior surfaces exposed to view in open casework, or behind transparent doors or surfaces, including:
- Shelves, including edgebanding.
- Divisions and partitions (front edge is an exposed surface).
- Interior face of ends (sides), backs, and bottoms (including pull outs). Also included are the interior surfaces of cabinet top members 914 mm [36”] or more above the finished floor.
- Interior face of door and applied drawer fronts.
a) Surfaces that are generally neither visible nor accessible to the building occupants and/or general public, but can be made visible or accessible by the movement of a component
a) Surfaces not normally visible after installation.
